Doing a little better

Wesley has had some improvements today.  They decided to give him his last dose of morphine at 4AM today beings he seemed to be doing so well.  He had so far shown no need for it whenever it was scheduled, they will simply do so for a certain period after surgery to avoid discomfort.  He was not waking up as much as the doctors would have liked after taking him off of the morphine, so they gave him a drug to counteract the sedation effect of the morphine.  He soon woke up and almost immediately loaded up his diaper.  Mommy changed his diaper again a couple of hours later and he had left a BIG present for her in that one, which is a good thing (for Wesley's sake anyway).  That meant that all of his insides were woken up again and flowin'.  That graph that indicates his own breaths versus what the machine is doing was indicating that about 95% was all his own doing by the end of the day.  The respiratory doctor was in tonight and is hoping to be able to take Wesley off of the breathing machine altogether by the end of the night.  He seems sore as is to be expected, and the worst part we saw today was he got the hiccoughs for a little while.  Poor little booger.  We'll all be so glad whenever he can get off of all those crazy tubes and lines running in and out of him everywhere.  He is still the strongest and largest baby in the room (which got two new additions today, making it a total of six in our room) and the nurses still say he is the least amount of worry in the room.  He's our big boy and we are already and have been so proud of him for being as strong and tough as he has been.  He's cerainly been the little trooper.  Reckon that's all I got for now.

Goodnight, little Wesley.

  2. I am very happy for all 3 of you. He looks to be pretty healthy. You will find in time he will teach the two of you more than you will ever be able to teach him. I hope I get a chance to see him.
